6th Class Win Debate!!

On Wednesday 26th January, our 6th Class debating team headed off with Ms. Norton and Ms. Kenny for their debating challenge against Scoil Bhríde in Clondalkin. Our captain Amy Carruth alongside Orla Dunne and Laura Fitzpatrick worked so hard preparing for the motion “Food Waste Should be Made Illegal” and their hard effort and work definitely paid off! The girls debated in favour of the motion and brought forward lots of interesting points. For example, did you know that one million tonnes of food is thrown out every year in Ireland, even though 10% of the population suffer from poverty and homelessness? The rest of the 6th Class girls were an excellent support to the team and gave lots of encouragement throughout the debate. Thanks to Abby McKeever and Ava Condren Fitzpatrick who were our timekeepers!

A special thank you to Scoil Bhríde who were excellent hosts to our school. We feel very fortunate to have won against such an outstanding team.

As part of the persuasive genre of writing, the girls in 6th Class are learning all about the debating process and they are amazing us with their level of research and talent. Thank you very much to Mrs. Gallery who helped the teachers to prepare the girls for their first debate.
