Sixth Class R.A.H Answers Week 29

Read At Home Week 29

Remember to check your spellings as you correct your work. In particular, the following words which should feature in your answers are often misspelled:

Day One- Looking Back 

Q1. The narrator’s teacher in Sixth Class was Ms Davis.

Q2. Mrs Murphy was the narrator’s Junior Infant teacher.

Q3. The narrator was like a lobster in a pot because he had managed to get his head through the bars but couldn’t get it back out.

Q4. Mrs Murphy used Vaseline as a lubricant on the narrator’s ears.

Q5. The caretaker rescued the child by cutting the bars to free his head.

Day Two- Why Do We Drive On The Left?

Q 1. Ireland and Britain are two countries which drive on the left-hand-side.

Q 2. Originally everyone travelled on the left side of the road so that they could hold their sword in their right hand to protect themselves from attack from approaching strangers.

Q 3. Napoleon was left-handed.

Q 4. Americans chose to drive on the right as they had just won their War of Independence against the British and they wanted to get rid of all links with Britain. 

Q 5. The steering wheel is on the right -hand-side of Irish cars.

Day Three- Seaside Song

Q 1. The title of this poem is Seaside Song.

Q 2. The poet uses lots of words to describe the weather including sun-boiled, bright light, fried egg, hot skin, sun-tanned sizzler of a day.

Q 3. They did lots of activities that day such as swimming, eating climbing trees, chasing bees, playing chasing, racing seagulls, rowing boats, spending money, singing songs and playing hide and seek in the sand dunes.

Q 4. On the way home they fell asleep in the car.

Q 5. In my opinion, this poem is fast paced as it is a long, frantic list of activities.

Day Four- Tank Man

Q1. The man in the photograph has two nicknames Tank Man or Unknown Rebel.

Q2. The photograph was taken by a press photographer called Jeff Widener.

Q3. It was taken in Tiananmen Square in Beijing in China.

Q 4. Crowds of students, teachers and workers took part in the protests in favour of reforms.

Q 5. Time magazine called the man known as the Unknown Rebel as one of the hundred most important people of the twentieth century.
