Last Thursday Sixth class had the opportunity to present a project at the Primary Science Fair at the BT Young Scientists Exhibition in the RDS. Their project ‘Microbes in the Classroom: How Clean is Your Classroom?’ examined and measured the amount of micro-organisms found on commonly-touched classroom surfaces. The experiment found that the classroom telephone and the computer mouse had the most evidence of micro-organisms!
Eight girls from sixth class travelled to the RDS for the day to present the project on the class’ behalf. There, they were interviewed by judges, other participants and visitors on their project. It was a very worthwhile experience for the girls and hopefully has inspired some of them to pursue science further in their education. The class recieved a trophy for their participation.
We were also delighted to welcome our local TD Katherine Zappone to our stand who asked the girls lots of questions and posed for pictures.
All other members of 6th class and some members of 4th class, accompanied by Ms Kenny and Ms Dignam also visited the Primary Science Fair and the BT Young Scientists Exhibition on the day.
It was a wonderful experience and has hopefully inspired some of the St. Kevin’s girls to pursue science further in their education!
