 Olympic Handball

The U11 team and U 13 handball squad are training extremely hard. In the first term we were very lucky to have two of our two past pupils Andrea Shattock and Shannon Conroy training the teams at lunchtime once a week. On 6th December both teams went to Gormanstown for their first league blitz. This was a fantastic day. The U13’s won both their matches and the U11’s won two matches and their last match was a draw.  This blitz was a valuable experience for them. Everyone played extremely well.  They displayed a high level of skill and teamwork in their matches. We are all so proud of them. Many thanks to Angela Smith, Andrea and Shannon for coming along on the day. We eagerly await the announcement of the date of our next league blitz.

Bronagh’s Recount about The Peace Proms

The Peace Proms was held last week at the R.D.S in Dublin. It was the 20th annual Peace Proms!

First of all, we went on the bus. I was Tyra’s partner. It took us a half an hour to get to the R.D.S.

Next, our bus pulled up outside our tunnel, a woman directed us underneath the seats and to our seats.

When the majority of people arrived, we began to practise some songs such as ‘Best Day of my Life, ‘Heal the World’, ‘Ireland’s Call’ and more. We went to the toilet and ate our lunch.

Then people came flooding into the arena. I began to feel very nervous but excited at the same time!

At 8:00 pm the Cross Border Orchestra of Ireland began to play, they were amazing! We began to sing a few songs, the soloists sang and the orchestra played a few more songs. At 9:15 we had a break.

During the break, me and a few other girls and teacher went to the toilet. It was packed!

We made a train so no one would get lost in the heap of people!

When we finally got out of the toilet, we had to run back to the stage because the music was playing. When we got back to the stage, The Orchestra was playing a piece from ‘Star Wars’, that was one of my favourites!

We sang all of our songs and at 11p.m. the show finished up and my Mam collected me at the green block

Overall it was a great experience. I really enjoyed singing all of the songs!
