Last week St. Kevin’s GNS celebrated Science Week which promotes Science and Science-related careers to children, teenagers and adults in Ireland. As well as participating in a variety of science experiments and activities throughout the week, the senior classes took part in a ‘Science Carousel Afternoon’, which comprised of four fun and collaborative experiments. These experiments were:
- Earthquakes: Build a structure to withstand an earthquake using cocktail sticks, marshmallows and jelly.
- What is heart rate?: How does your heart rate increase or decrease. What activities can affect heart rate?
- Build a bridge: Learn how bridges are designed and design and construct your own bridge to hold a variety of materials.
- CO2 Balloons: Inflate a balloon using Bicarbonate of Soda and Vinegar
All children also received a Science Week pencil and ruler for participating in the activities.
